Work in Chencha finished
First place of production is working successfull - New project planned
After 4 years of intense work, 5 WOW-Days and 3 journeys to Ethopia between 2011 and 2014 we can now successfully finish our project in Chencha (south of Ethopia). All in all there where 30.500,-€ being invested in Chencha. To accomplish this goal we had WOW-Days with the participation of the classes 7 to 12 from the Waldorfschool Wendelstein as well as numerous sponsors. Only with this support we where able to finish the construction of the facility of production in Chencha.

After finishing the main house, the shower, the toilet and the water supply with a solar water pump, we accomplished following tasks during our third journey in 2014:
Main House:
- The room was properly cleaned, the stuff was organized, doors walls and the building support where painted.
- Windows where installed and the roof was protected against birds.
- All tools where registered in a document as well as fotographically.
- A storage for tools and materials was build.
- A pair of solarpanels was installed at the outer wall. Inside the house there is now a station for charging electronic devices as well as light, everything connected to a 12 volt battery which is beeing charged by the solar panels. Those lights are also working if there is one of the numerous blackouts in Chencha. So it can be said that our target of green power for Chencha was accomplished and the solution itself was surprisingly cheap.
- Additionally to the Solar-light-bulbs we also brought portable solar-torches which are also chargeable at the mentioned charging station.
Water supply:
- The dam which assures constant water supply was beeing rebuilded and improved significantely. There is now also a protection against dirt and a new water hose.
- The Barrel with the pump inside was cleaned, the incoming water supply was fixed and everything was made water proof.
- The Solar Panels for the pump where cleaned. The water pipeline and the sensor electronics where buried in a tube and are now underground. Partially it was necessary to change the old sensor electronics due to weather influence.
- The water tank with 1000l volume was painted black to assure warm water and was beeing put on a newly build foundation made of rocks.
- Completely new are hoses with a connection to the house as well as to the toilet and the shower.
- The toilet was completely cleaned and the location of it was changed. The Toilet house was improved with a new floor. There was also a new toilet seat beeing build by a few boys.
- The shower was cleaned and renovated
Further success:
- The solar dryer was finished according to the blueprints
- Water tubes beyond the water tank where installed to provide watering for the apple trees
- A new greenhouse was paid with project money (4000,-€), one version with bamboo support, one version with steel support. (Not finished before we left)
- One laptop for communication issues was left there (rechargeable at the solar charging station)
We say thank you to all supporters, employees, helpers and donators for the productive cooperation.
For 2016 we are planning a new project in Ethopia. Further reports will come as soon as possible.

Arrival in Addis Abeba
Successful beginning of the third field trip in Ethopia
After a peaceful flight over Istanbul and successful negotiations with the very arbitrary and unsuspecting customs officials (... A Jigsaw was considered very suspicious...), we arrived at the capital of Ethiopia.

We used the first day to organize drivers and vehicles for trips around the town and to change money (3500 euros to about 93000 Birr. Since the highest note in Ethiopia has a value of 100 Birr, this means we had to carry bags of money) to buy phone cards and to enjoy the day relaxing at a coffee ceremony in the hq of Ecopia. On Wednesday, 10/22/2014 we have a meeting with the Rotary Club which is localized at the Hilton Hotel. There we will present our school and the project. Then we will visit the Ethnological Museum in Addis Ababa. The capital city is a vibrant, growing, noisy and dusty metropolis which you need to get used to first. (see next photo below) We are still in good spirits and fearless. In addition, we feel very secure in our small, nice hotel.
Thursday, 23:10. then we break up to Chencha...
